About Enigma:

Enigma was set up in 2014 by Linda and Danielle for people with any enduring mental health problem. They found that, after completing a 15 week Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) course with the Mental Health Trust, there was no other ongoing support available in the East Anglia, and decided to establish their own peer support group.

Founding Members

Danielle Davis, Enigma Founder

"Hello, my name is Danielle Davis. Many years ago I was diagnosed with emotionally unstable personality disorder (Borderline personality disorder) and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) by a clinical psychiatrist from the Norfolk and Suffolk Foundation Trust.

I have lived with anxiety and depression for over thirty years with very little professional help and support. I have been on medication prescribed by a doctor since I was nineteen. I have lived through many painful life-changing experiences but finally feel I have found my purpose in life; to help and support others that have or are going through some the painful lived experiences I have, guiding people through their own recovery journey"

Linda Atwood

"I have had mental health problems for the past 18 years. I had a good job I loved, a company car, two children and had been married for 25 years.

My problems started after I lost two people within six months who were very close to me. At first I thought I was fine, but about a year later I realised something was wrong; I forgot appointments, or I was late and within my job I travelled all around East Anglia, but I found I kept losing my route. Sometime later I found myself in a psychiatric hospital but with no memory of how I got there and was in and out of hospital for years. My husband and my daughter left our family home because they said they couldn't talk with me and I had changed.

I also lost my job, company car and my home. Gradually I attended groups, had various therapies and my mental health began to improve. I realised I had a lot of experience in mental health, benefits, diet - good and bad and that I could help others. After meeting Danielle we decided to use our expertise and started Enigma"

Social Aspects

It's not all work at Enigma; we also want people to feel relaxed when they attend:
(Click the coloured links to see pictures from past events)

  • We celebrate Christmas.
  • We have Easter Egg Hunts.
  • We meet outside of the group for lunch/coffee on occasion.

We do this to encourage social interaction and to foster a close-knit feeling within the group.

We attend various networking events in Suffolk to help promote what Enigma does:

  • We have attended networking events within NSFT, MAVAM and MIND.
  • Enigma was one of two organisations chosen for support by the Mayor of Stowmarket.
  • We invite Enigma members to attend and provide support.

We also give presentations to any organisations involved in mental health who are interested in learning about how we all work within Enigma.
